You will enjoy meeting Max, a 12 year old Russian boy who grew up in 1983. Max's life is different from ours, but also very similar. Max lives with his parents, twin sisters and Grandfather in a small home in the city of Belsk, Russia.
Max likes a girl named Tanya, whom he gets into many adventures with, from fighting bullies to surviving in an ice cave!
Max keeps a diary of his life, telling the reader what his family is like, from his brave and wise Grandfather, Anton, who fought in WWII, who helps him get out of trouble, to his farting dog named Charly.
1. Max!
I couldn't put the book down. In fact, when I had to stop and eat, it was a case of telling myself "just one more page..." And so it went, on and on. And I that's how the last few hours passed by.
This is an amazing story about a bright young guy who is discovering right from wrong and learning what not to do and what is acceptable. I loved the way he works things out logically and that he knows he can ask for advice when he needs to.
He finds himself attracted to a young lady and fumbles through that friendship in a very amusing kind of way. He fights a 'battle' for something he feels strongly about and wins it. He strengthens the bonds of his existing friendships and makes new friends with others.
The illustrations clearly show what has been written about and are just as I had imagined the incidents.
All in all, this is a beautiful story and one I would be happy for my grandchildren and any other children to read. Enjoy!
2. MAX! STRESSED
OH WOW!
This second book in the series tells us about Maxim, a 12 year old boy who keeps on wondering if aliens have landed and taken over his body and his mind.
Seriously, strange things are beginning to happen to his body and mind especially when he is with Tanya, the girl he secretly fancies. He blushes or vomits or faints or gets embarrassed by other physical changes in his body. And at times his mind goes out of control with weird thoughts....
Besides all this he is actually a very caring person and when he sees a problem, he goes out of his way to find a solution to it even if it has something to do with his enemy and the school bully.
He has two very good friends and they live through some exciting adventures together. Can you imagine getting into trouble if you go out of your way to help people? Well, this is what happens but it all works out well.
He is falling in love for the first time and we read about a lot of things in this connection that either puzzle or embarrass him. Luckily he seems to learn from this too.
I laughed and I cried from time to time, but I so enjoyed this story! This book can be read by boys or girls and I even know of a good many adults that would learn a thing or two about life from it.
3. Max! In the Snow
It's always good to have a great, hearty laugh and this is what I was doing throughout most of this book. Not only did I laugh, but on two occasions I had tears of joy in my eyes as a result of an adventure that could have turned out quite tragic, but thankfully was very successful.
Our friend Maxim goes to live in Alaska for a while with his family, makes a very good friend and finds himself in a 'hot water' situation in this book. The words rolled off the pages and held me spell-bound right to the very last page.
This author is a magician with words and a teller of wonderful tales. I have really enjoyed this series and know that teenagers and adults can enjoy this book too.

My daughter and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Max and all of his friends/family.
Following adventures of a little boy in a far off land (we're in the US) has made for some very interesting discussions with her.

Very well written coming of age adventure series with excellent and realistic characters (Tanya, Alex, and Maxim). The characters are flawed and funny. The book was hard to put down and provided for a fun enjoyable read. Included many of the problems teenagers encounter growing up. Would definitely recommend this book to readers of all ages.
